What is the EUDR?
The EU Deforestation Regulation. Companies selling timber, cocoa, rubber, coffee, oil palm, soy or cattle products in the EU must prove the goods were not grown on land deforested after 31 Dec 2020. Proof starts with the plot's location — and EU buyers are already asking their suppliers for exactly that.
Point or polygon — the 4-hectare rule
Plots larger than 4 ha must be polygons; plots of 4 ha or less may be a single point. Coordinates must be WGS-84 (EPSG:4326) with at least 6 decimal places. This checker applies both rules and auto-closes unclosed rings.
Who files the Due Diligence Statement?
The operator that first places the product on the EU market files the DDS in TRACES. Downstream companies pass on the DDS reference number. Producers outside the EU don't file — but their EU buyers will ask them for exactly the plot data this page checks.
Does certification (MSPO, FSC, RSPO…) exempt me?
No. Certification can support your risk assessment, but there is no certification safe-harbour in the EUDR — geolocation, risk assessment and the DDS remain the operator's legal responsibility.
When does it apply?
30 December 2026 for operators and traders generally. 30 June 2027 applies only to natural persons and micro or small undertakings established on or before 31 December 2024 — and not to wood products already covered by the old EU Timber Regulation, which apply from 30 December 2026 (Reg. (EU) 2023/1115 as amended by Reg. (EU) 2025/2650). Buyer data requests are already flowing upstream.
Why did my file get rejected by TRACES?
The most common causes are format errors this page catches before you file: unclosed or self-intersecting rings, lat/lon in the wrong order, insufficient coordinate precision, and points used for plots over 4 ha.
Why not just use a free forest-data tool?
Free tools like FAO Whisp and Global Forest Watch give you a raw forest-data readout. This page is the same public satellite record into a plain-English answer, a format pre-check that catches the errors TRACES bounces, and a dated PDF you can keep on file.
